FORMULATING THE KEY FACTORS INFLUENCING MARITIME SECURITY CONTROL IN SARAWAK WATERS IN THE ABSENCE OF A TLDM BASE

Abstract

This study examines the factors that contribute to the weakness of maritime surveillance in Sarawak waters due to the absence of a TLDM base. Through a qualitative approach, interviews with 5 participants were conducted to identify the high risk of maritime security violations and the level of vulnerability to threats in the area. The findings of the study show the need to improve surveillance and law enforcement, as well as the importance of the use of technology and international cooperation in improving maritime security. A Strategic Integration Model is proposed to improve the maritime security situation in Sarawak waters, including aspects of surveillance, enforcement, technology, and cooperation. Implications of this study include practical guidance for maritime operational policies and strategies in this area.
